KLEIN Jan at Tswalu wins prestigious ‘International Hidden Gem’ award

Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen is a visionary – his in-depth understanding of food has translated into him being named the first South African chef to win a Michelin Star for his restaurant Jan in Nice. His books and photography are equal to his skills in the kitchen.

Opening Restaurant KLEIN Jan at Twsalu Game Reserve in the Kalahari was an adventure that he place his heart and soul into. In the middle of nowhere sits KLEIN Jan – an ode to his upbringing on a farm.

The food has been called indescribable and the aesthetic unusual for a fine-dining setting. But this is what makes Jan legendary at whatever he does. So it’s no wonder that the restaurant was honoured with the ‘International Hidden Gem’ Award at the prestigious La Liste 2022 gala evening in Paris recently.
