DRIVE SOUTH AFRICA: Exploring Klipgat Caves in the Honda Fit
If there are any F-bombs I’m dropping today they are going to be Fun, Flamboyant and Futuristic – exactly what the Honda Fit is.
Sadly, it’s replacing the popular Honda Jazz, beloved for its reliability and fuel consumption – but the future is now and we must evolve with the times.
WATCH:
But before we evolve, let us drag you back 80 000 years ago to our destination – Klipgat Cave in De Kelders located at Walker Bay in the Western Cape. Besides its breathtaking views both inside and out – it was right here that archeologists discovered some of the earliest remains of humans.
The sculpted art formations created by Nature over the years formed windows in the spacious limestone cave – and the views are nothing short of spectacular.
Spacious front cabin
Talking about space and windows – the Honda Fit has interesting features the larger front windscreen and the side window panels which are meant to give you a more unobstructed view of the road – and they certainly do.
The cluster is much smaller, and the dashboard larger. The audio system is compact and the front cabin feels spacier.
The Honda Fit is deceiving – in a good way of course. It looks much smaller from the outside but when you step in it’s almost like the vehicle expands to accommodate more than you anticipate.
Take a leisurely drive to Klipgat Caves, two hours from Cape Town with four passengers and there’s still enough space to swing a cat. But you shouldn’t. Ever!
And when you’re in the caves and silence fills the cavity – you can close your eyes and imagine a life lived right here 80 000 years ago when stone tools, bones and tortoise shell bowls were part of every day life for the Middle Stone Age homo sapiens. The cave holds a wealth of secrets and tragedy – it is believed that a smallpox breakout wiped out the whole population in 1713.
Make more travel memories
Epidemics are no stranger to us all these years later – which is why you should buy the ride that fulfils your needs and make more travel memories than ever before.
The Honda Fit has the magic you’re looking for – the seat configurations allow you to move them in three different directions so you get the best space to suit your needs.
In one trip, we took you to the rocky past in the comfort of the future – I would say that makes for a perfect fit
The Honda Fit is available in a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine pushing out 89 kW & 145 Nm and also in a hybrid version.
