A life like no other: Desmond Tutu dies at 90

South Africa has lost another world icon. Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has passed away at the age of 90. His death means SA’s last living Nobel Peace Prize winner has left us.

Tutu will forever be remembered for being instrumental in the fight against apartheid, and for playing a pivotal role in South Africa’s road to democracy. He courageously stood up for the human rights of all people even at great risk to his own life, famously saving a man accused of being an apartheid spy from certain death in the 1980s.

In more recent times, Tutu was tough on SA’s politicians and spoke out loudly against corruption and poor governance on the part of the ruling party.

Above all else though, Tutu showed that he was human, emotional, filled with the joy of life. He would often be seen laughing, singing, and dancing in public.

Hamba kahle, Arch! You will be missed, but never forgotten.
