The legacy of the Long March to Freedom

The Long March to Freedom, situated outside Century City in Cape Town presents the South African story, and our country’s journey to freedom over the past two centuries.

WATCH:

From the rebel chiefs like Albert Luthuli and revered kings like King Shaka, to the modern day activists like Walter Sisulu and Nelson Mandela, the sculpture park brings together the legacy and memory of more 400 freedom fighters, against the backdrop of the iconic Table Mountain.

The lifelike, bronze depictions of the women and men who played a pivotal in South Africa’s path to democracy are part of an ongoing undertaking that includes researchers, sculptors, artists and casting foundries across South Africa. Visitors can take a gentle stroll through history, admire the incredible works on display and learn about each individual’s contribution to our country’s democratic dream.

The park is a place of learning, growth, healing and self-reflection, as well as a place to celebrate South Africa’s victory over oppression.
